The Victoria Film Festival returns Feb. 4-13, 2011, and organizers are promising a slate of films that will stimulate critical analysis and inspire an interest in using the medium of film as a creative tool.
The festival aims to expose youth and adults to a broad range of cultural, artistic, and philosophical ideas and lifestyles through the presentation of film, video, and new media.
“We handpick quality films from all over the world that reflect the diversity of our planet,” says festival director Kathy Kay. “This year we will be presenting a variety of diverse movies. For example, Topp Twins takes you into the lives of the world’s only yodeling lesbian twin country-and-western singers. Conversely, Blame is about a group of young vigilantes who find themselves on the dark side of the law in attempting to seek revenge for a sexual betrayal.”
The festival has welcomed such high-profile guests as Kris Kristofferson, Atom Egoyan, David Foster, Barry Pepper, Arthur Hiller, Don McKellar, Jonathan Lipnicki, Dirk Benedict, Keith Carradine, Beverly D’Angelo, and David Keith.
Events such as Sips ‘n’ Cinema, ConVerge, SpringBoard Talks, Dinner and More Than a Movie, and the opening and closing galas highlight the schedule of events for the 2011 festival.
Attendance figures at the festival have been increasing each year, with an annual average increase of 16 per cent. The festival aims to inspire filmmakers and to help bring new perspectives to our community.
