IN THE KNOW:

Destination Canada adds Juan de Fuca to its Tourism Corridor

Following the successful launch of its Tourism Corridor Strategy Program last year, Destination Canada has announced it will add four new corridors, one of which is on B.C.’s west coast.

The organization says the Juan de Fuca Corridor is a partnership with the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER), designed to capitalize on destination development strategies that have been completed and focused on required investment for future attraction and resiliency.

This is the first corridor to cross into the United States, offering new opportunities to engage with Canada’s largest international market.

Others include connecting cycling corridors in Ontario and Quebec, promoting agritourism in Saskatchewan and Manitoba and connecting Edmonton as the gateway to the Northwest Territories.

The Tourism Corridor Strategy Program aims to contribute to a more resilient tourism industry through accelerated destination development of multiple corridors across Canada. The program crosses provincial and territorial boundaries to bring together tourism organizations to develop iconic new journeys for travellers to explore.

Destination Canada says the Tourism Corridor Strategy Program “will enhance Canada’s appeal by providing visitors with compelling reasons to explore new regions, thereby strengthening Canada’s tourism sector.”

The selected corridors are chosen for their potential to grow jobs, encourage Indigenous inclusion and partnerships, engage local communities, support economic growth, employ a regenerative approach and catalyze investment attraction.

ICET announces new Coastal Economies App

The Island Coastal Economic Trust has partnered with CityViz to design an interactive web app for residents, economic development professionals, educators, and governments. The app is a tool to visualize economic changes and industry transitions across multiple criteria.

Providing a regional economic perspective across nine regional districts and 24 local areas, the Coastal Economies App provides industry-specific data in a user-friendly visual platform. This makes it easy to understand both current economic conditions and emerging long-term trends.
