“This agreement lays the foundation for what will be an exciting multi-year commitment for Camosun College in the development of India’s sport skills initiative,” says President Bell. “Our partnership with Jain University signifies Camosun’s growing reputation for excellent curriculum development and education delivery in sport and business sectors.”

The Camosun – JU partnership flows from a major MOU signed by Camosun College and India’s National Skill Development Corporation in April last year, where Camosun pledged to work with Indian partners to develop a national sport skills training program. Jain University, the first to move forward with this major national venture, becomes the foundation partner in work that will include the development of short course “train-the-trainer” programs, delivery of Camosun programming, and participation in the development of sport training facilities in the Bangalore region.

“Jain University continues to be a trend-setter in the field of education,” says Dr. R. Chenraj Roychand, JU president. “We believe in enhancing the capacity of the Indian teachers and students to a level where they can compete on par with international students. Our strategic tie-up with Camosun College is a bold new step in this direction. We are confident that this will usher in a new era of dynamism in the teaching fraternity of India, while inspiring students from Jain institutions to set examples for others.”

The MOU is effective to 2023. In addition to the train-the-trainer programs, Camosun will co-operate with JU to deliver Camosun diplomas in Sport Management and Exercise and Wellness at JU campuses in Bangalore, with the option for JU students to complete the final two years of their degree at the Interurban campus in Victoria. The agreement will also allow qualifying JU students to transfer to Camosun College to complete the Bachelor of Business Administration, the Diploma in Business Administration and Post-Degree Diplomas in Business.

A small Camosun delegation comprising of Sherri Bell, President, Geoff Wilmshurst, VP Partnerships and Richard Stride, Dean of Business and Dean of the Centre for Sport and Exercise Education arrived in India March 11. The itinerary includes travel between New Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai for meetings with the High Commissioner, New Delhi, the Sports Sector Skills Council, and JU educational representatives.

Currently Camosun enrolls more than 1,300 international students, 250 of whom come from India, Camosun’s second largest international student source country. A combination of international enrollments, off-shore education and training programs, international field schools and study abroad options, contribute to a diverse campus experience and enhanced global awareness for the entire Camosun community.
