Victoria Public Market at The Hudson to Open in June

Vendors of local produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses and other tempting foods are all signed up for the June 22 opening of the Victoria Public Market at The Hudson.

The public market continues to make progress, unveiling the market’s floor plan and some computer renderings of the design for the space, which is located at 770 Fisgard Street at The Hudson, home of the former Hudson Bay.

“We want to make the Victoria Public Market at the Hudson a one-stop shop for all of your grocery needs by providing the best local farms and food producers in the region” says General Manager Maryanne Carmack; adding that current vendors include a sweet and savory pie shop, Silk Road Tea, Salt Spring Island Cheese, a Mexican kiosk featuring fresh churros and hot chocolate, a spice shop, WildFire Bakery, the best seafood store in Victoria, and outlets by some of the regions most respected chefs and restauranteurs.

“This is going to be the tastiest place on Vancouver Island”, says Carmack.

Information on the tenant line-up at the Public Market has been released as it becomes available, with recent updates including Vij’s Restaurant from Vancouver and Cowichan Bay Seafood as possible vendors.

Additionally, this food-focused public market will feature a community kitchen at the heart of the space, and will also include affordable indoor day tables for farmers and small-scale producers 6 days a week, as well as an open-air farmers’ markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Although over 70 per cent full, a few spots are still available and the market is still looking for a butcher and a few other food-related businesses.

Other businesses located at The Hudson include Hudson Yoga, Olive the Senses, 2% Jazz, the Inner Harbour Optometry Clinic, DesignHouse Salon, Royal Bank and Smoken Bones Cookshack.
