The Victoria Chinese Commerce Association, in partnership with businesses and individuals in the community, will be hosting a long-awaited night market once a month in the 500 block of Fisgard Street.
A first for Chinatown, the market will celebrate Chinese culture and Chinatown as a cultural hub. Vendors, music, and food will fit with a Chinatown cultural theme in celebration of Chinatown’s long history in the community.
“The market is as much about celebrating Chinatown as a cultural hub as it will be about what people can buy at the market,” says Tony Joe, VCCA member and Chinatown Market Committee chairman. “Chinatown is a vibrant place and we are looking forward to adding to that vibrancy with these evening events.”
Markets will be held the last Wednesday of the month, on July 27, Aug. 31, and Sept. 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. Chinatown merchants will be participating along with guest vendors, entertainers, and food vendors.
Entertainment will feature traditional dance and music. Hua Lin Dance will perform a series of dances performances on Chinese harp, violin, and flute, as well as Tai Chi and other demonstrations.

May Ip-Lam, of May Ip-Lam Gallery, will demonstrate brush painting and Chinese calligraphy. Art cards and prints will be available for sale. Silk Road will also be hosting a Chinese tea-themed night.
