Special Events Support Strong June Tourism Performance
“In June, special events such as the Bayview Place Island Savings PGA Golf Tournament and the Subaru Ironman Race, helped draw visitors to Victoria and contributed to strong year-over-year growth in transportation and accommodation indicators. Airport and BC Ferries passenger traffic were up 8.7% and 4.5% respectively while RevPAR rates were up by $11.44 (8%),” says Frank Bourree, partner at Chemistry Consulting.

More events = more visitors!
“The combination of a number of larger events held in Nanaimo in June (e.g., Festival of Architecture, Local Government Management Association Conference, Feastival Culinary Festival) together with ongoing healthy growth in travel to the island generally, are reflected in Nanaimo’s June accommodation and transportation indicators. Accommodators should be pleased with June’s occupancy rate of 83.6% (up a notable 13.7% over June of last year) while both BC Ferries and the Nanaimo Airport report strong year-over-year and year-to-date growth,” says Frank Bourree, partner at Chemistry Consulting.
