Annual TD Art Gallery Paint-In Bigger and Greener This Year

Vancouver Island’s largest outdoor art event is back and bigger than ever. In addition to even more artists this year, the TD Art Gallery Paint-In is adding seven imagination stations along the route where the public can get creative and try different activities.

The event is also making every effort to have minimal impact on the environment. Attendees are encouraged to bring water bottles to fill up at the CRD water cart at the Gallery and to use the recycling stations along Moss Street.

Saturday, July 16, will mark the Paint-In’s 29th year. The day kicks off at 10 a.m. with admission-by-donation at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, at 11:00 a.m. more than 165 local artists will bring their studios to Moss Street. The family garden also opens for the day at 11:00 a.m. and will offer an array of food, beverages and live music until 9:00 p.m. at the Gallery—located at 1040 Moss Street.

“There is nothing quite like the TD Art Gallery Paint-In,” says Jon Tupper, director of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. “Victoria is a welcoming, diverse and vibrant community that embraces the arts. To us the paint-in is a celebration of that relationship between artist and community, a day to enjoy local art, as well as a chance to bring ever more people into the mix and show them who our artists are, how they are creating, and maybe even inspire them to create themselves.”

The free event allows a variety of artists to be seen—painters, sculptors, carvers, potters, printmakers, performers and more will come from across Vancouver Island and British Columbia. They will line Victoria’s beautiful Moss Street between Fort Street and Dallas Road until 4:00 p.m.

“We are proud to present this unique event and to say that it is even greener this year,” says Dave Golen, District Vice President TD Canada Trust, South Vancouver Island.

The TD Art Gallery Paint-In is designed with the entire community in mind, from ensuring the event is accessible to setting up seven information booths throughout the event with rest stations, water refill and doggy bowls. For the younger crowd, there is even a bouncy castle.

The family-friendly food and beverage garden will be in the AGGV parking lot and is open all day until 9:00 p.m.  Those under the age of 19 can enter but will not be permitted to purchase or consume alcohol. Slim Sandy and Hillbilly Boppers will be performing in the afternoon and Tight Hair Disco in the evening.

The TD Art Gallery Paint-In is one of the City of Victoria’s premiere public events, with more than 35,000 people flocking to the festival-like atmosphere each year.
