5 Business and City Events to Know About This Week: August 6 to 12

Practice the new language you're learning, spend BC Day at the Crystal Pool thanks to CUPE Local 50, and get an in-depth understanding of effective multi-channel web marketing.

Go swimming on BC Day

When: Monday, August 6

Where: Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre

Why: The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 50 has been representing workers and serving the community for 100 years now. To celebrate this huge milestone, CUPE Local 50 is sponsoring a free swim and community barbecue at the Crystal Pool on BC Day. Admission to the facility is free for all, and hot dogs and drinks will be served by CUPE Local 50 members starting at 11 a.m. Join in the celebration, make the most of the holiday Monday and chat with members who represent City of Victoria workers.

Attend a workshop and engage in deep conversations

When: Wednesday, August 8

Where: theDock: Centre for Social Impact

Why: This Wednesday, attend the Existence Project Storytelling Workshop. The two-hour workshop uses storytelling to change how we interact with marginalized communities. In this particular session, a professional storyteller draws on their own experience with homelessness and will then guide the group through a creative exercise to reflect on social issues in the community. The workshop is capped, so register in advance to ensure you can participate in this creative, engaging and thought-provoking session.

Practice a new language at the monthly Babble Bar Language Exchange

When: Wednesday, August 8

Where: Studio Robazzo

Why: Spend some time speaking the new language you’re learning with others who are learning that language too, or chat with individuals who are fluent in that language. This free event is a chance to meet and network with people from all over the world, brush up on your language skills and improve your speaking skills in a new language. This time, there’s also a potluck so bring along a healthy snack to share — it might be a good conversation starter, too!

Mix and mingle with members of Victoria’s business community

When: Thursday, August 9

Where: Canoe Brewpub

Why: The Prodigy Group hosts its monthly networking event at Canoe Brewpub on Thursday evening. Mingle with established and emerging business professionals over a drink and connect with like-minded people. This event is open to Prodigy Group members and future members.
