DVBA Announces 'Fly Your Flag' Grant
Jun 27, 2012
(News Release) VICTORIA — The Downtown Victoria Business Association has announced a new grant program for downtown business and property owners. The "Fly Your Flag" grant will assist property owners with repairing existing flag poles and installing new poles on building tops and facades in the downtown core.
"There are approximately one dozen dilapidated and abandoned flag poles on top of downtown buildings which contribute nothing to the animation of the downtown skyline," said Ken Kelly, DVBA General Manager. "Flags on the top of these poles and on new ones have the potential to animate the appearance of our downtown and to compliment the architecture of our buildings."
The "Fly Your Flag" grant will provide 50% of the cost, up to $500, for the restoration of historic flag poles or installation of new ones in the downtown core.
"We are pleased to announce this new program in the lead up to Canada Day in Victoria," said Kelly. "It is a prime opportunity to invite all of our downtown businesses to fly their own flags and add to the colour and appeal of our downtown, and if you don't have a pole, apply to us so you will have one next year!"
